Activity indicators of some enzymes in the blood serum of dogs at different intensities of dipylidium infection

The article presents the findings of a study on the activity of key blood serum enzymes in dogs with varying infection intensities of Dipylidium caninum, conducted between 2024 and 2026 in Poltava. Examining four groups of young dogs (under 1 year of age), the study demonstrated that D. caninum infection induces clear dose-dependent toxic effects on the host organism. Even at low infection intensity (up to 2 cocoons/g of feces), statistically significant increases were observed in ALT (by 21.3%), AST (by 12.4%), and alkaline phosphatase (by 12.0%) compared to healthy control dogs. With high infection intensity (8–14 cocoons/g), enzyme elevations were most pronounced: ALT increased by 34.5%, AST by 26.9%, alkaline phosphatase by 33.0%, along with a significant 19.8% increase in GGT activity. These biochemical alterations reflect increasing hepatobiliary stress and metabolic dysfunction as parasitic burden rises.
