Публікація Effects of IGF2 genotypes on growth performance and meat productivity of three-way hybrid pigs(Regulatory Mechanisms in Biosystems,, 2026-05-24) Fesenko, O. G.; Shaferivskyi, B. S.; Vashchenko, P. A.; Фесенко, Оксана Григорівна; Шаферівський, Богдан Сергійович; Ващенко, Павло АнатолійовичThe study investigated the association between IGF2 gene polymorphism and productive traits of commercial hybrid pigs obtained by crossing Danish Large White and Landrace sows with Duroc and Pietrain boars. The objective of the research was to evaluate the influence of IGF2 genotypes on fattening, carcass, meat productivity, and economic efficiency traits in modern commercial crossbreeding combinations. Genotyping was performed using PCR-RFLP analysis. Four hybrid combinations were studied: LWxLxD, LxLWxD, LWxLxP, and LxLWxP. Allele and genotype frequencies, Hardy– Weinberg equilibrium parameters, productive performance, carcass characteristics, and economic indicators were analyzed. The results demonstrated moderate heterozygosity (He = 0.42–0.492) and the absence of significant deviations from Hardy–Weinberg equilibrium in all experimental groups, indicating stability of the genetic structure at the IGF2 locus. Animals carrying AA and AB genotypes generally showed higher average daily gain, greater absolute weight gain, and shorter fattening periods compared with BB genotype carriers. Significant differences were observed for average daily gain, age at reaching100 kg body weight, feed consumption, and absolute gain. The influence of the IGF2 polymorphism on carcass and meat traits was also established, particularly for preslaughter weight, transport weight, carcass length measured from the first cervical vertebra, carcass length measured from the first rib, and backfat thickness. In most cases, AA and AB genotypes were associated with better growth intensity and improved carcass quality, whereas BB animals tended to have thicker backfat. Economic evaluation showed that pigs with the AA genotype had the lowest production cost, the highest profitability level, and the greatest net profit per animal. The obtained results confirm the practical significance of the IGF2 locus as a promising marker for marker-assisted selection aimed at improving growth performance, meat productivity, and economic efficiency in commercial pig production systems.Публікація Polymorphism of the ADRB3 gene in Ukrainian Red-and-White Dairy cattle and its association with economically important traits(Regulatory Mechanisms in Biosystems, 2026-09-12) Vashchenko, P. A.; Polishchuk, V. A.; Tsereniuk, O. M.; Balabanova, I. A.; Stadnytska, O. I.; Shaferivskyi, B. S.; Fesenko, O. G.; Polishchuk, A. A.; Ващенко, Павло Анатолійович; Шаферівський, Богдан Сергійович; Фесенко, Оксана Григорівна; Поліщук, Анатолій АнатолійовичMarker-assisted selection (MAS) is a promising approach for identifying genetic variants associated with economically important traits in livestock. The β3-adrenergic receptor gene (ADRB3) is involved in the regulation of energy metabolism and may influence growth, body development, and productive performance. This study aimed to characterize ADRB3 polymorphism and evaluate its associations with milk productivity, live weight, and body conformation traits in Ukrainian Red-and-White Dairy cows. Genotyping was performed in 98 cows and their paternal sires. Six alleles (A–F) were identified, with allele A predominating (0.500), while alleles B and E were rare (0.015 each). The effective number of alleles was 3.019, the Shannon information index was 1.319, and the polymorphism information content (PIC) was 0.624, indicating high genetic variability. All 96 genotyped cows were heterozygous, with observed heterozygosity of 1.000 and a negative fixation index (−0.495). All six paternal sires had the AA genotype, indicating that the alternative alleles in daughters were inherited from the maternal side. Association analysis included 90 cows with AC, AD, and AF genotypes; rare AB and AE groups were excluded because of their small size and deviation from normality. Significant genotype-associated differences were found for 305-day milk yield, live weight, sacral height, chest depth, chest width, chest girth, pelvic width, and cannon bone girth. Cows with the AC genotype had 662.2 kg (10.6%) higher 305-day milk yield and 7.47 kg (1.5%) greater live weight compared with AD cows. The AC genotype was also associated with greater sacral height and pelvic width, whereas AD cows showed greater chest dimensions, cannon bone girth, and body compactness. Significant differences were additionally detected for leg length, pelvic–thoracic, compactness, and bone indexes. The findings indicate that ADRB3 polymorphism may be a potential marker of variation in milk productivity, live weight, and body conformation in Ukrainian Red-and-White Dairy cattle. However, the specific pedigree structure and limited representation of sire families require cautious interpretation. Further studies in larger and independent populations are needed to validate these associations and clarify their biological basis.Публікація Reproductive performance traits and their discreteness in sows with dif- ferent intrabreed differentiation by the melanocortin-4 receptor gene MC4R(Ukrainian Journal of Veterinary and Agricultural Sciences, 2026-10-06) Fesenko, O. G.; Shaferivskyi, B. S.; Фесенко, Оксана Григорівна; Шаферівський, Богдан СергійовичThe article presents the results of a study of reproductive performance traits and their discreteness in Large White sows of French breeding with different intrabreed differentiation according to the melanocortin-4 receptor gene MC4R. The experimental part of the study and data analysis were conducted at Agroprime-Holding LLC, Odesa Region, in the Laboratory of Genetics and the Laboratory of Pig Breeding and Selection of the Institute of Pig Breeding and Agroindustrial Production of NAAS, as well as in the Animal Husbandry Laboratory of the State Institution Institute of Grain Crops of NAAS. The reproductive performance of sows with different genotypes for the melanocortin-4 receptor gene MC4R (MC4R GG – experimental group I; MC4R AG – experimental group II) was evaluated using the following quantitative traits: total number of piglets born, head; number of piglets at weaning at 28 days of age, head; litter weight at weaning at 28 and 60 days of age, kg; and piglet survival to weaning, %. The coefficient of discreteness of quantitative traits in sows of experimental groups I and II was calculated according to the method of Siromolot V. V. and Sviatchenko S. I. (1984). It was established that Large White sows of French breeding were characterized by high reproductive performance. In terms of total number of piglets born and litter weight at weaning at 60 days of age, the animals exceeded the minimum requirements for the elite class by 11.29 and 24.24 %, respectively.
