M.; Muzyka, D.; Chaplygina, A.Feather mites (Acariformes, Astigmata) are a large group of species in which mites of the genus Proctophyllodes Robin, 1868. Analgoidea are among the most common parasites of passerines. These mites are permanent obligate ectoparasites localized on the flight feathers, greater wing coverts, and on the tail. Most species of feather mites are characterized by high host specificity. The taxonomy and fauna of feather mites of the genus Proctophyllodes, and their morphological identification characters in different countries of the world are still a matter of research. The aim of our work was to describe the morphological features and metric parameters of feather mites of the species P. musicus Vitzthum, 1922, isolated from the common blackbird Turdus merula Linnaeus, 1758 in Ukraine. 32 parameters are determined in males and females of P.musicus mites, which characterize both their general structure of the body and sexual dimorphism. The structure and sizes of the body, gnathosoma, idiosoma, prodorsal and hysteronotal shields, epimerites I, setae cp and c3, and the distance between setae of the scapula se–se and si–si are described. In males, the sizes of adanal sucker discs, epigastric shields, genital arch, setae ps2, h3, h2, the distance between setae 4a–4a, g–g, ps3–ps3, ps1–ps1 are additionally described and determined. Lamellae in males are wide, tongueshaped, do not overlap. The aedeagus is short, slightly extending beyond the posterior margin of the genital arch. In female mites, the dimensions of the lobar shield, terminal appendages, and terminal recess are additionally described and determined, taking into account the location of setae ps1, h2, the dimensions of setae cp, c3, h3, h2, the distance between setae h1–h1, the distance between hysteronotal and lobar shields. The mite eggs were measured in the body of the female and on the feathers of the birds. The scientific data obtained in this study expand the already existing data on morphological and metric characters of feather mites of the species P. musicus(Proctophyllodidae) isolated from the common blackbirdПублікація Hoof Pathologies in Cattle(2026) Kulynych, S. The present study investigated the prevalence, clinical presentation, and treatment outcomes of the most common hoof lesions – digital dermatitis (Mortellaro’s disease), Rusterholz ulcers, purulent pododermatitis, and interdigital dermatitis – across multiple dairy farms in Ukraine. Clinical examinations and therapeutic procedures were performed on more than 9,800 cows from 7 farms during 2022–2023. Diagnosis was conducted during scheduled functional hoof trimming using an orthopedic crush and was confirmed based on lesion morphology, presence of exudate, odor, and pain response. A locally formulated topical powder composed of copper sulfate, zinc oxide, iodoform, and potassium permanganate was applied to purulent –necrotic lesions and compared with a control treatment using a commercial chemi-spray. Therapeutic efficacy was evaluated by lesion healing dynamics and locomotion scores (AHDB system) on days 3, 14, 21, and 45. Digital dermatitis was identified as the predominant lesion, accounting for 50–66% of all diagnosed hoof disorders. The locally formulated powder showed markedly superior therapeutic performance relative to the chemi-spray, accelerating tissue repair and improving locomotion, with full recovery achieved in 86.7–100% of treated cows, depending on farm and lesion type. These findings confirm the persistently high prevalence of hoof diseases in dairy herds and demonstrate the clinical advantage of an affordable, locally prepared treatment formulation. Routine functional trimming, early lesion detection, and evidence-based local therapy remain critical components of effective lameness management in modern dairy production systemsПублікація Lip lesions in horses: case report(2024) Kulynych, S. M.; Кулинич, Сергій Миколайович; Jaśkowski, J.; Zvenigorodska, T. V.; Звенігородська, Таміла Владиславівна; Kolomak, I. O.; Коломак, Ігор Олегович; Tul, O. I.; Туль, Олександра ІванівнаThe article presents the results of monitoring studies on the mucous membrane lesions in Trakehner horses. Based on clinical examination, the localization, size, and number of ulcers, as well as the inflammatory reaction to the presence of necrotic tissue, were determined. In addition to clinical examination, planimetric studies were also carried out to determine the size of the ulcers and the dynamics of their reduction during treatment with aerosol application of PVP iodine spray. To determine the nature of inflammation in the lesion focus, smears were taken from the surface of the ulcers. Microbiological and mycological studies of pathological tissues and feed samples were carried out to establish the etiological factors contributing to the ulcers. It was found that the size of the ulcers varied from 1 to 6 cm, and they were located on the upper and lower lips on both the right and left sides. Neutrophilic leukocytosis was observed in the focus of inflammation. Leukocytes actively phagocytized microorganisms present in the pathological focus. Microscopic fungi of the species A. flavus, A. fumigatus, M. species, and P. commune sprouted on Saburo medium from necrotic tissues of the pathological focus. A similar composition of fungal species was obtained by sowing feed samples fed to horses. Microbiological studies of ulcers revealed the growth of two microorganisms, S. aureus and P. vulgaris, on Baird-Parker agar. On the third day of treatment, compared to the first day, the size of the ulcers decreased by 22.8 %. It is recommended to perform primary surgical treatment of the ulcer, apply PVP iodine spray once a day, and replace the affected feed with high-quality feed to achieve a positive therapeutic effect
