The disease resistance is one of the most important features of chickpea adaptation to the adverse environmental conditions. The most common diseases of chickpea in the Forest-Steppe of Ukraine are fusarium and ascochitosis, which affect plants at all stages of vegetation.

Climatic factors play one of the main roles in shaping the productivity of leguminous crops. Under favorable weather conditions and proper agricultural background, the chickpea yield can reach 2,5–4,2 t/ha, under extreme growing conditions (drought), the yield drops to 0,7–1,0 t/ha. In particularly dry years, chickpeas compete with peas in terms of productivity.
